I know it’s Wednesday, but before we finish with maps, I must tell you about the Mappa Mundi.
The Mappa Mundi is a medieval map of the then known world. It is centred on Jerusalem, with east at the top, featuring the garden of Eden. That puts Britain down at the bottom left.
The map depicts 420 towns, 15 Biblical events, 33 animals and plants, 32 people and 5 scenes from classical mythology, so it is more than just a map.
You can see it in the library at Hereford Cathedral.
